Abstract

Stress charts are developed to determine vertical stresses at desired points caused by square or rectangular footings or groups of footings of various size and shape using elastic stress considerations. The variables considered include length and width of footings, spacing of various footings, magnitude of loading, and distribution of loads. The use of normalized, non-dimensional tables and charts is presented in terms of illustrative examples.
