Abstract
Carotid disease is a major contributor to stroke, one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. Clinically significant stenosis can be detected by duplex ultrasound using well-established criteria. In addition to optimal medical management, surgical and endovascular revascularizations of carotid disease have been demonstrated to be effective interventions that reduce the risk of stroke in properly selected patients.
