Abstract

Integration is essential to achieve the promise of InP-based photonics such as high carrier frequency, true time delay, and narrow-band RF signal processing. Wavelength selective active modulators permit compact high bandwidth multi-optical carrier transmission lines. Planar optical transmission lines with intrinsic loss of <10-3 cm-1, nearing that of optical fiber, rely on 50 nm membrane waveguides, the finest gauge free-standing semiconductor membranes reported to date.
