Abstract

The behavior of coherent phonons in Bi-Sb mixed crystal system and Bi/Sb superlattices was studied using a reflection-type pump-probe method. The mixed crystal was of three-mode type and had vibrations associated with Bi-Bi, Bi-Sb and Sb-Sb bonds. A weak band at around 120/cm which corresponds to the Bi-Sb mode was observed in the mixed crystal. This band was attributed to a Bi-Sb vibrational mode localized at the interface of Bi and Sb layers in the superlattice.
