Abstract

The feedback of signals from muscle spindle receptors to spinal motor neurons gives rise to a reflex component of muscle force that is related to joint velocity and position. Recent work from the author's laboratory deals with the nonlinear nature of the velocity signals generated by muscle spindles, the transmission of these signals through the stretch reflex arc and the potential role of this mechanism in the damping movement.
