Abstract

A simple mean field method is used to compute correlations within dilute solutions of charged chains in different conformations. This approach determines the fraction of condensed counterions and the effective interactions induced by them among the chain monomers. The derived free energy models for the collapsed and extended configurations are then compared to determine the equilibrium state.
