Funding

The SCIMS program began in 1970, with funding from the agency now known as the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) within the Administration for Community Living in the Department of Health and Human Services. 1 Since the start of the program, 31 SCIMS centers have been designated by NIDILRR to demonstrate a comprehensive care system for persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) and conduct research to improve long-term functional, vocational, cognitive, and quality-of-life outcomes for individuals with SCI ( Table 1 ). Supported by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) (grant no. 90DP0083). NIDILRR is a Center within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
