Abstract

We develop an analytical model to analyze the data capacity of a TDMA/FDMA system with adaptive modulation. Our model defines data capacity as the maximum average data throughput per channel, and includes packet retransmissions due to user movement and channel estimation error. We study a TDMA/FDMA system with a simple channel model to evaluate the performance bound on data capacity, and then incorporate retransmissions to determine how they affect data capacity. Our model provides a baseline for the study and analysis of the performance of adaptive modulation TDMA/FDMA systems.
