Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine experimentally the state of strain, deformation and failure around lined and unlined circular cavities in rock subjected to static uniaxial compression and compare the results with those from theory. Limestone specimens with 4- in. diam unlined holes and holes lined with aluminum or hydrostone liners are used. Experimental techniques used were strain gages, differential transformers and photoelastic coatings.
