Abstract

Abrupt peaks in the graphs of phosphorescence lifetime versus temperature were observed in solid (Bu4N+)2MnBr2-4 at temperatures at which thermal transitions were also observed. The corresponding MnCl2-4 system displayed a completely different behavior. The results are interpreted as reflecting changes in the rates of the radiationless decays, in turn reflecting the impediment of noncentrosymmetric vibrations.
