Abstract

Epitypes for Laccaria proxima (Boud.) Pat. and L. tortilis (Bolt.) Cooke are designated to stabilize the concept of these names. These specimens were designated as representative specimens in the recent monograph of the North American taxa of the genus by Mueller, but lacked any legal standing and were presented only to indicate the author's concept of the taxa. These representative specimens are here given formal status as epitypes. The lectotypes of these names are illustrations that lack sufficient micromorphological detail to stabilize the application of the name. The 1994 edition of the ICBN (Tokyo Code) introduces the concept of epitypes for such situations.
