Abstract

This review considers aspects of developmental pharmacology that have not been extensively considered in previous publications, examining in particular the following subject areas: The determinants of placental transfer with emphasis on how biological maturation modifies these factors and influences fetal drug disposition. The fetal hepatic circulation and its effect on drug metabolism. The role of the adenyl cyclase-cyclic nucleotide system in regulating receptor reactivity and the fetal response to drugs.
