Abstract

Fracture toughness of aluminum plates with cracks was measured by means of photoelastic coatings. The stress intensity factor was obtained in terms of the radius and fringe order of various isochromatic fringe loops using an extrapolation law. Results were compared with those obtained using the compliance method and with theoretical values.
