Abstract
Examined is the small amplitude wave theory for a monochromatic directional wavemaker, within a large basin, where the side and end walls have little influence on wave behaviour. Diffractive end effects are considered for two conditions: the first when the wavemaker is flanked by rigid walls and the second when it is free standing in the basin. Mathematical treatment is comparable to that of Ursell, Dean and Yu, apart from a use of Fourier transforms in the third dimension. (from paper)
