Disease-Modifying Therapies and Supportive Care of Multiple Sclerosis

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). There is no cure for MS and the disease management is centered on long-term administration of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) and supportive care. Management of MS continues to evolve with the implementation of new clinical and research advancements. The goals and expectations of DMTs and supportive care have shifted from accepting partial efficacy to achieving a state of long-term remission, sometimes with only a few treatment courses. The goal of this review is to describe the current state of MS management in the context of disease mechanisms and clinical practice.
