Abstract

Ischemia effects on propagation characteristics are studied in a one-dimensional model of myocardium using the Luo-Rudy model. In particular the effects of changes in electrophysiologic parameters on propagation block, action potential duration (APD) and the effects of premature impulses in propagation characteristics around the border zone between normal and ischemic tissue are studied. It is shown that the direction of propagation coupled with changes in coupling resistance and resting membrane potential plays a dramatic role in altering propagation characteristics and action potential duration spatial distribution.
