Abstract

Dynamic Vehicle Allocation is an important aspect of Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO) applications of ITS technologies. This research explores dispatching and load acceptance strategies under real-time information on vehicle locations, shipper demands and network conditions. Components of a general fleet management system for carrier operations are described as are productivity-enhancing operational changes possible under real-time information. Strategies for load acceptance and load assignment and re-assignment are discussed along with simulation results to evaluate their benefits.
