Abstract
A nonlinear stability analysis of a plane flame in a gaseous fuel subject to gravitational forces and small volumetric heat loss is presented. A nonlinear partial differential equation describing the evolution and structure of the flame is derived. It is shown that the effects of volumetric heat loss can be summarized in a scale factor multiplying the strength of the gravitational force field. The scale factor is a function of the heat loss coefficient.
