Abstract
Scattering of time-harmonic elastic waves by a configuration of a macrocrack and an adjacent microcavity is investigated. The problem formulation is two-dimensional and for a state of plane strain. A traction boundary integral equation formulation is developed. Numerical calculations by the boundary element method have been carried out for several geometrical configurations. The dependence of scattered fields and elastodynamic stress intensity factors on angle of incidence of elastic waves, microcavity diameter and microcavity location has been discussed.
