Abstract

There are conflicting results as to whether drugs which affect noradrenergic mechanisms affect rat prolactin secretion. Piperoxane, an α-adrenergic receptor blocker and clonidine, an α-adrenergic agonist, were found not to significantly affect prolactin secretion in male rats. The piperoxane results do not support a previous report which suggests this agent may have anti-psychotic action based on its ability to stimulate prolactin secretion in non-human primates.
