The deformation and failure under uniaxial tension of composite plates with circular holes were studied for glass-epoxy, boron-epoxy and graphite-epoxy laminates of various constructions and stacking sequences. The influence of material and stacking sequence on strain distributions, strain-concentration factors and strength-reduction factors is discussed. The boron-epoxy composite was found to be the stiffest and strongest of the three. The graphite laminate with the highest stress concentration and the most linear strain response exhibited the highest strength-reduction factor.
