Abstract

AIM: To study the effects of total glucosides of mudan cortex (TGM) on functions of three types of immune cells in vitro. METHODS: T lymphocyte proliferation and its interleukin 2 (IL-2) secretion, B lymphocyte proliferation, IL-1 production by peritoneal macrophages were measured by [3H]-TdR incorporation. RESULTS: TGM 2~50 mg · L-1 could significantly promote murine T lympocyte proliferation and IL-2 secretion by rat T lymphocyte induced by concanavalin A, and murine B lymphocyte proliferation as well as IL-1 production of rat peritoneal macrophages induced by lipopolysaccharide. Their concentration-effect curves showed the bell- shaped. CONCLUSION: TGM has a dual immunomodulatory activity in a concentration-related way.
