N2 - Defect ordering in doped zirconia, considerably limiting ionic transport in ceramic electrolytes, has been reported to defy basic point-charge electrostatics. Here we identify the origin of this remarkable inference, thereby rationalizing a number of important conductivity traits in zirconia-based electrolytes.
