Abstract

Elastic settlement analysis of drilled piers by linear elastic theory was introduced by the author into the Czechoslovak Standard CSN 73 1004. The theory needs to introduce the appropriate value of modulus. Modulus is evaluated from the load tests of drilled piers assuming that only the active depth lying directly under the pier base undergoes compression. Active depth is defined as the depth of the layer in which the increment of stress is greater than a certain given fraction of effective geostatic stress. The result is that the modulus is equal to the modulus of deformation pertaining to the active depth of layer underlying the pier base. Refs.
