N2 - Among the crack configurations that are usually considered in fracture mechanics, the surface-breaking crack is of distinct practical interest. The simplest configuration is the two-dimensonal normal edge-crack in an elastic half plane. For a broad class of static loads the stress-intensity factor for the normal edge-crack was analyzed by Koiter, and in a different manner by Sneddon and Das. In the present paper the elastodynamic fields for the edge-crack configuration are investigated.
