Abstract
An overview is presented of some aspects of the current status of the theoretical determination of the electronic structure of rare earth and actinide intermetallics. It is intended to provide a framework and to set the stage for discussions of presentations during the rest of this Conference. The emphasis on the fundamental theoretical/computational problems which are involved in the challenge of describing theoretically the electronic structure of f electron systems.
