N2 - The use of a single Lamb wave mode simplifies the interpretation of data in nondestructive testing of thin plates. In this work, an EMAT is specially configured to generate single Lamb wave modes and laser interferometry is used to detect the wave. A broadband path-stabilized Michelson interferometer is first used to check the conditions under which the EMAT truly generates a single mode on a thin plate. As an illustrative application of this system, the subsequent interaction of a single Lamb wave mode with crack-like notches is observed at high spatial resolution using the laser interferometer.
