Abstract

An approximate analysis of multistory, braced or unbraced, laterally loaded, plane frames is presented. The principle of minimum total potential energy is used to derive the equilibrium equations for these frames. It is then used as the basis for the evaluation of unknown parameters in assumed displacement fields. The axial shortening of columns is also included in the approach. Refs.
