Abstract

A discussion covers the effect of steam dealumination of a zeolite on its hydrocarbon cracking activity, with emphasis on Y zeolites; advances toward understanding the origin of enhanced activity by steaming; data obtained with steamed or ultrastable Y and chemically dealuminated Y zeolites; comparison of catalytic activities; and role of pore diffusion in the rate of hydrocarbon cracking reaction.
