Abstract
By means of effective load, Pe, and effective impulse, Ie, a characteristic curve for the response of structures subjected to general pulse loading is obtained. The structural response to an arbitrary impact can be estimated from this curve. Alternatively, a characteristic curve by means of total effective load, P′e, and total impulse, I, is also deduced so as to simplify the computation, while its validity is discussed.
