The proceedings of the conference are presented in this issue of AEM. The conference provided a general overview of health care disparities with attention to the emergency department (ED) setting. Issues such as defining what disparities exist in emergency medicine, how health care disparities outside the ED impact us, and current research were discussed. Working groups discussed epidemiology, causes, relevant methodologies to research disparities, educational issues, clinical implications, areas for focused research, and outcomes assessment of research into disparities.
