Abstract

In four years of use at VA Lakeside Medical Center, patients have preferred the removable rigid dressing and suspension cuff to other conventional stump management techniques due to its ease of application and removal, stump protection provided at night, and the ability to progress stump shrinkage without direct supervision of a therapist. Other advantages have been the disappearance of pre-tibial skin breakdown, and early weight-bearing on the cast leading to an earlier ambulatory discharge from the hospital.
