Abstract

For cast filling process, the Navier-Stokes equation and the continuum equation can be reduced to the transient Bernoulli equation and potential equation, which results in a significant saving of computer running time and storage requirement. The volume of fluid (VOF) are combined with finite element method for solving casting filling problems. The enthalpy method with 1-D heat conduction model is used to determine the temperature distribution and the thickness of the filling. Numerical examples for prediction of filling patterns and parametric study are presented.
