Abstract
The rate of exchange of H+ and Na+ ions with Dowex 50 resin was studied in dilute solutions. A batch reactor with a built-in electrical conductivity cell was used to obtain data in the region of external film diffusion control. The experimental data were compared with predictions based on the use of the Nernst-Planck equations to describe the diffusional process. The results indicate the general validity of the approach, but additional work will be required before truly quantitative agreement of theory and experiment is possible.
