Abstract
The combustion synthesis process for nitrides, hydrides, and other materials by SHS is investigated and the characteristics of the resulting material are calculated. These characteristics depend on the porosity and final depth of conversion of the porous, condensed starting material. Dense final materials with high porosity can be fabricated by varying the initial pressure in the sample and the sample permeability.
