Abstract

Y- and Z-type Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the new dye 1-[N-(n-hexadecyl)-4-pyridinio]-2-[5-(dicyanomethanidyl)thien- 2-yl]ethene (C16H33-PDCNTE) were studied by visible ultraviolet (UV-vis) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies. LB films exhibiting sharp photobleachable UV-vis absorption band were obtained. This property coupled with the dye compound's negative solvatochromicity and high dipole transition moment make it a promising candidate for nonlinear optical applications.
