Abstract
In this paper, it is shown that steady state models are, under certain conditions, acceptable approximations of concentration profiles of reacting chemical species in a growing sediment-pore water layer. Using these results, the authors present some relationships for the fluxes in pore waters at the sediment layer boundaries (which may or may not coincide with the sediment-water interface), and they discuss their significance with respect to the occurrences of Ca and Mg in ocean and pore waters.
