Abstract

New intermetallic phases were synthesized by reacting oxidic perovskites and gold metal in aluminum flux. The combination of MTiO3 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) and Au metal in excess molten aluminum produces quaternary compounds M3Au6+xAl26Ti with a stuffed BaHg11 structure type. An analogue with M = Yb was also synthesized; it shows mixed valent behavior.
