Abstract

Marjorie Bloss and Helen Gbala, members of the committee that created ANSI/NISO Z39.71-1999: Holdings Statements for Bibliographic Items, presented a history of the development of standards for recording bibliographic holdings and gave examples of holdings statements using the new standard and the MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data. Various issues pertaining to the creation of the standard and its use were discussed.
