Fracture mechanics model for shrinkage cracking ring

Abstract

A fracture mechanics model was developed for predicting transverse cracking of concrete ring specimen due to drying shrinkage. Using materials fracture parameters K1cs and CTODc, R-curve of the ring was determined. The maximum allowable tensile strain was calculated. Age at which transverse cracking of the ring due to restrained drying shrinkage was then predicted.
