From extensibility to interoperability between database systems and application systems

Abstract

Most work on interoperability in multidatabase systems has concentrated on the issue of cooperation between different database systems. We focus our attention here on the interoperability between database systems and application systems and show that many of the extensibility features are closely related to the concepts discussed in federated databases.
