From the Periodic Table to the Dinner Table

Abstract

Women with PhDs leave academic career paths much more frequently than their male counterparts for a variety of reasons from their desire to focus on family to outright discrimination. Fortunately, there are more and more role models to showcase the possibilities for women that are aiming for a scientific research career. As Danielle Tullman-Ercek describes, balancing success in her tenure-track professorship with nurturing her young family is a challenge but also provides flexibility and unique opportunities. She also details her path to both her career and motherhood.
