Abstract

The Steel Research Group designed a new, high performance steels by combining computer aided modeling, systems design techniques, and advanced analytical characterization. The result was the Questek Innovations which first applied to a gear and bearing steel for high power-transmission systems. Three case-carburized gear and bearing steels were designed, the Ferrium CS61 alloy, the GearMet C61 alloy, and the GearMet C69 alloy. The design and development of these alloys are further describe.
