N1 - Funding Information: From 2003 through March 2008, the number of individuals who were receiving antiretroviral therapy in the 15 focus countries increased from 50,000 to 11.64 million [76]. We strongly supported passage of the United States Global Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Act in July 2008, which reauthorized the US global AIDS program and authorized $48 billion in funding over a 5-year period for HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria programs [77]. We urge the US government to continue its robust commitment to global health by funding the program at the levels recommended in the legislation and maintaining and enhancing the US financial support to the Global Fund to Fight HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
