Abstract

We have developed an experimental model to induce SMC migration in vivo and to assess the shear influence on this activity. In this model, a 350 micron polymeric cylinder was implanted into the rat abdominal vena cava through the vessel center with the cylinder axis perpendicular to blood flow. Results suggest that blood shear stress regulates SMC migration, and endothelial cells possibly mediate this process.
