Christina arrived at Northwestern University in 1955. She worked first as a research fellow and instructor in the Ophthalmology Department before transitioning to a faculty position in 1962 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology, supported by an NIH Career Development Award. In 1968, she officially moved to the Technological Institute (now the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science), although her lab had been on Northwestern's Evanston campus since 1959. She was one of the first female faculty members in engineering at Northwestern, a founding faculty member of the Biomedical Engineering Department, and an early faculty member in the Neurobiology Department.
