Abstract

The field homogeneity requirements for observing the de Haas-van Alphen effect are discussed in some detail. It is demonstrated how field inhomogeneity can cause interaction between different de Haas-van Alphen frequencies. A method for measuring the absolute amplitude of de Haas-van Alphen oscillations using a known field gradient is proposed.
