Abstract

Using the matched asymptotic techniques the structure and extinction of the one-dimensional laminar flame in the presence of radiative heat loss are studied. An explicit relationship is derived which relates the flame propagation velocity to radiative heat loss. In good agreement with the previous studies the slow and fast flame speeds are identified which merge at a critical extinction burning velocity. The results of the study on the nonliear radiative loss are similar to those of the study on the linear conductive loss. In the present study, it is also found that the downstream loss is more important than the upstream loss in the premixed burning.
