Abstract

EMG from six shoulder muscles were registered as subjects were increasing their force output from controlled and supported rest to MVC in different directions and in different postures. Model calculations were invoked to interpret the results. It was found that MVC is submaximal (30%-70%), that descending part of the trapezius produces elastic stress (≈20%) and that tonus in the range 2%-7% may be present in stabilizing shoulder muscles.
