Abstract
Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are an important technology for improving glycemic outcomes in diabetes. However, in most care settings, CGM data are siloed in manufacturer-specific data platforms and are not integrated with the electronic health record (EHR). In 2021, the Diabetes Technology Society organized the Integration of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Data into the EHR (iCoDE) Project, which brought together industry, academia, healthcare, and government agencies to develop the first set of CGM–EHR integration standards and recommendations. The resulting 2022 report laid out a comprehensive and practical approach for data integration. New policies, technologies, and funding mechanisms will need to be put in place to ensure broad access and implementation of CGM–EHR integrations. Artificial intelligence applications will likely require the use of more advanced and flexible data platforms.
